GPS cost? dealer says 2100.

I am negotiating the purchase of an 2000 ML 320 after taking the advice of this board.

My dealer says that it would cost 2100 to put in the GPS and that that is a fixed figure. That sounds strange to me, is it so?

Also, the 2000 has the large screen, so 2100 for just the GPS nav sounds like an awful lot for that.

Is there anywhere I can go, online or otherwise, to get a unit at less than what the dealer is quoting it for?

Thanks,

Erik

Go to clairparts.com. You can buy it for

$1150-$1200.
As for the instructions to install it, this board's archives are full o fthese discussions. I could myself forward the instructions if you want them. I installed it myself in my 2002 ML after pulling it from another car that we were trading in and loved it. The only thing that req a trip to dealer was the programming of the MCS which takes 5 min. My dealer did it for free.

Saty, was MCS programming needed for the voice prompting? TIA.

Thanks. How useful is voice prompting?

Tremendously. I would almost say that GPS is pretty much useless without it.

2000 ML does not require the dealer to reprogram the MCS

That is only required on 2002 MLs. as the MCS is slightly different than earlier models.

Simple upgrade. Plug in MCS, add antenna and you are done.

No reprogramming is necessary. The vehicle is prewired.
