Have anyone new experience excessive oil consumtion on their ML.

I know this subject have be covered in the passed. I just want to know if any new case pop up.

blau
My 98ML320 has been very stable on oil, only getting more oil at oil changes, except when I drive to Jacksonville, FL, about a 3.5 hoour drive. Weird. Don't ask me why.

I'm beginning to think there are oil-stealing gnomes down there...

I can make dozens of 45 minute trips (at 65mph) without a change in oil level, or drive 2.5 hours at highway speed without a drop, but if I push it that extra hour, I burn up about half a quart!

The past 3 times I've gone to Jax, I've gotten the OIL LOW idiot light on the way back (confirmed at the dipstick), and it takes about half to three-quarters of a quart to bring it back up. The last time I went, I verified the level was fine before starting, but I still stashed a quart in the rear comparttment with the CD-changer. Sure enough, I had to add more on the way home.

My ML sits on a flat new parking pad and has not left a single drop, and the engine compartment is clean enough to eat off of. My gas milage is as good as ever, and power is just as good today as the day I bought it new, 86,000 miles ago.

It's paid for, it's never stranded me, but I wish I knew why it burns oil like my old VW Beetle when I hit the road...
You may have something here Chester. In my case, I recall that I seem to get this as well a few days after my quarterly 4.5 hour road trips?? I never put 2 and 2 together...Don't have the answer though but this driving habit may be a clue to the root cause.
