Has anyone added the skyview wind deflector? I understand the entire parts package runs about $300 US, is easy to install and is quite superior to the conventional deflector add-on. Drew - is this on your to-do list?
TIA for any comments :-)
P.S. Unlike the Parkpilot, my wife will allow me to add this deflector to her baby - pending favorable feedback.
I priced it out in Canada and found it to be over 600 US$. Alot of the parts had to be ordered from Germany and there was no way of knowing if they would even fit an '02. I decided it wasn't worth that kind of money. My two cents.
MB part numbers are:

163-793-01-04 R support
163-793-02-04 L support
163-793-01-55 R cap
163-793-02-55 L cap
163-793-00-88 Deflector
163-990-11-01 screws
163-793-00-98 seal

Easy install and fit on a 2002 ML320, should fit every other year too. The deflector definately cuts the wind noise(A good amount more the the cheaper small deflector) and if you have a MB roof rack it dramatically cuts the wind howl and I think is a must have. I was deciding wether or not to return the roofrack due to the howl/whistling but once I install the skyview deflector and moved the front bar fowards 90% of the noise went away and is barely noticable.
Regards,
Mike
With the roof rack on it definately cuts the noise with both the sunroof open and closed since the rack wind howl is audible even with the sunroof closed and no deflector. Once the deflector is on the noise is 90% gone when the sunroof is closed and %70 gone when open.
Without the roof rack(Not really sure since I have the roof rack on all the time) I doubt the deflector would make much of a difference when the roof is closed. It should make a difference when the sun roof is open as even with the roof rack mine now makes less noise than before when I had no roof rack and the smaller deflector.

Regards,
Mike
Re: I paid $261 plus shipping from clairparts.....
Mike:
This is for the large Xterra-like wind deflector that mounts to the roof rack? How long did it take them to ship it to you? I had the dealer here track down the part numbers and they couldn't get it for anywhere near that price.
Thanks
Yes, the skyview large deflector that attaches to....
the roof rails.(I replaced the small OEM one with this larger one) Those are all the part numbers for everything you need. I emailed Kevin over at Clair(klipski@clair.com) with that part list and he quoted me $261(It was a month or so ago and I did order a decent amount of stuff from him around that time so your quote might be a tad different). He shipped it out that day!!!(I have made 4 orders from clair and 2 were shipped same day and 2 the next day). I live it CT. so UPS ground is next day and I installed it that next day in about 45 minutes. I think on my home computer I have some instruction I found on the internet and I will post a link later.
Re: Yes, the skyview large deflector that attaches to....
Thanks.
I might reconsider getting the skyview at that price. The price from the MB dealer was way too high, but even the parts guy thought it was crazy.
One thing I try to keep in mind when adding accessories is...
how much trouble (cost) would it be to return to stock condition if the need/whim comes by.

Mike, you say you did a user installation of the skyview deflector, so a few questions…
Did the original black plastic rail caps from the leading edge of the rack rails come off in one piece? Would they be reusable if you wanted to go back to stock for whatever reason?
I’ve heard of people stripping the screw heads when attempting to remove the non-skyview rail mounts (leading edge) – comments?
One more thing - How do you like the look?

Thanks group. Great feedback. I’ll keep you posted on what I do with this issue.
For that price US$261, you can probably by a set of roof rack cross bars and the fairing. The fairing can then be positoned in the same spot where the Skyview deflector is. US$261 (don't forget to add taxes + customs) is rather pricey for just a piece of acrylic!
