My 2000 ML 430 died shortly after starting one day and wouldn't turnover so I had it towed home. I thought it was the fuel pump by the way the motor wouldn't turn and after finally getting to the pump and testing the charge I could see that it wasn't getting a charge. I popped the fuse box under the hood and the fuse for the fuel pump was literally melted into the slot, almost all of the plastic had dripped off. It was the only one like that in the fuse box and I have never seen anything like that at all, has anyone else?
I popped a new fuse in after pulling the remnant of the old one out and the truck started on the first try and drove fine. I drove it twice more without issue and then the third time it wouldn't turn over again. I opened the fuse box, pulled out and replaced he same fuse and the truck started up on the first try and ran fine.
This has been the pattern, its fine for 3-4 trips and then suddenly won't start until I pull and pop that fuse back in.
Any thoughts on what the issue may be here?
