New owner -two questions about the ML

Hello all, I've searched the history of posts and can't find these questions answered anywhere... The NAV/Radio display -it's distracting at drive in movies, any way to turn the display off & still play the Bose stereo?
Also, the plastic covers above each rear door that are embossed with arrows -what are they for? Each plastic piece is in two parts and flips up independantly.

Re: New owner -two questions about the ML

Regarding your first question, no. But you can try to flip down the screen. Just bring along a small piece of cardboard. Problem solved :-)

The small covers are for the coat hanger rail accessory that they have in Europe (we can't get it here) or the cargo barrier.

Re: I think you can turn down the brightness of the screen....

Thanks, but the screen 'beeps' rather loudly if left in the down position for more than a few minutes. The dimming feature doesn't really help much for movie nite...

Mine has the auto dimmer..

I got a Canadian issue ML and when you actually turn on the headlights the radio panel backsdown about 40%.

The confusion comes because the headlights are 'always' on (DRL's are mandated there)....and when it turns dark you're left wondering why the G.D. radio panel is kicking out full blast. Driving back from Toronto I had to put a paper napkin over it because I hadn't the time to read the manual.

It's become a reminder to 'turn on the headlights'...or maybe I don't have to? I should check to see if the taillights are also DRL's. I think they're a good idea anyway...

Answer: cardboard or paper napkins.

Turn your parking lights on, and dim your instrument cluster...

It's one of the knobs on your instrument cluster. If you have your parking lights on, just turn the knob counterclockwise and it will dim your whole interior dash lights including the LCD screen.

good luck

-Chris

Now there's something I haven't tried yet. Sounds like it should work though -thank you.
