I was told by my MB Service Technician that oil change intervals on '99 and newer ML's is between 10 - 15,000 miles due to MB using Synthetic motor oils. In addition, should I recieve the Oil Low Warning light before then all I should do is add oil to bring it back to the proper levels and only have the oil changed when the service indicator tells me to.

Since this is my first MB, I wanted to make sure that this sort of change interval is resonable on ML's.
Thanks,
This is MB's policy and I would stick with it. Don't believe that the indicator will give you the miles you note unless all your driving is Highway. You will most likely see 9000 to 11000 miles between changes.
Is it really O.K to follow FSS for oil change(every 10,000)???
My ML320 is hitting 5000 miles. Well, I am just not confortable without oil change. Do you guys think that I can just follow the FSS or should I get a oil change? Please advice me...
Thanks,
Yes, You are safe to follow the FSS for oil change since the MB is using the synthetic oil now a days. I did change my oil when I hit 5K miles on mine because MB was not using the Mobil 1 then, but since they use Mobil 1 on all MB I just follow the FSS..
You can still change your oil why not but IMO its just a waste of assy.money )and once you change it your FSS ODO will go beyond 10,000 mile because the oil sensor will detect that your oil is still good.
It's your call.
Think again: If you plan to keep the ML, or if you were buying a used ML would you rather have or buy one that had its oil and filter changed about every 5,000 miles or every 10,000-15,000 miles? Logically which engine would last longer? The more frequent the oil change the less particulate mater is in the engine to cause damage....
I have to believe that it is not in MB's best interest to suggest a level of maintenance that doesn't keep the vehicle in top running order. In the long run it would really damage their reputation for build quality and customer loyalty. (Just me 2cents)
Most of us who plan on keeping the ML, change oil every 5,000 miles...
and if you do it yourself, it is really not that expensive $40-$50. Your ML gets clean oil and you get a peace of mind.
