Yesterday, While leaving the mall. I started the car and the steering wheel would hardly move, took two hand and some grunting to get the car to turn 90 degrees. Called roadside assistance and was told no one could get to me for an hour, even though this happed within viewing distance of a dealership(that was closed)Prestige motorrs in Paramus ,NJ. They had me run a couple of tests over the phone and decided either the pump or the computer had failed, and I would need to be towed. I drove it home instead, really slowly. This ML isn't even 2 years old and its already had the shift mechanism replaced and the wiper mechanism, each burned out. I think this was the last straw. The last Mercedes I'll ever own. Love it when it works, hate it when it doesn't.
Great truck when its working ok - but way too many problems / breakdowns for the price and a three pointed star.
I'm just waiting for one more major failure on my ML430 (MY '00) before I reluctantly dump it...

Tim in San Deigo

MY '00 ML430
MY '02 996 Porsche
They fixed it today, The hose clamp came loose. They replaced the clamp, but now the steering feels overly assisted, Maybe thats the way it supposed to be, and I've had defective powers steering all this time.
