Dual Exhaust....

Looking for options to muscle up the rear of my ML -- dont really care about HP -- tired of comments about mini van. Give me a rear profile as tough as the X5! any suggestions?
You find the X5's rear end "tough"?...

Heh, I think it's sporty na wagon-like (not crazy about the taillamp arrangement), but not tough, LOL.

Try a rear wing and chrome exhaust tip. The people who say that it's a minivan must be blind. What kind of minivan has tires that are so wide, or a trailer hitch that looks like that?

I still don't understand the concept of the X5

I don't find any benefits to the X5 vs *any* of the BMW wagons(except the 5 series wagons which don't have all wheel drive yet). I mean, it has *less* room than many of their sedans. It sits a little bit higher, granted. But I was looking at it vs my ML and I have 3 boys. I needed that third row seat. Needed that. I do know that they will probably come out with the X7 or a long-wheelbase X5(and X3). But I see no reason for the X5 right now practially speaking. I can understand wanting a BMW SUV just not one with very little interior utility. The ML won hands down for me..it wasn't even a question after the requirement of 3 rows.

Re: You find the X5's rear end "tough"?...

I don't really find the rear end tough, but I do like the way the exhaust looks better than my ML. IMHO they should have done something like the 55 for the V8. My step mother has an X5 she bought about 6 months ago, she likes it but she is coming from a Land Rover so an Envoy would have seemed like a luxury vehicle in comparison :-). The X5 wasn't even in the running when we were car shopping and bought our ML -- there is no BMW dealer in our area and it isn't able to tow our boat.

Re: I still don't understand the concept of the X5

M5 is built on a 5 series wagon platform. Concept behind the car, its simple, BMW needed a vehicle to compete so this was the least expensive way out.

Re: You find the X5's rear end "tough"?...

Added some 18' AMG rims with Dunlop SP 9000 285 tires (very wide). Getting a Brabus dual exhaust for my ML 500 which should be in this week.....tough enough for me:)

The AMG rims that I've seen are very nice, but pretty pricey. How much was the brabus exhaust? It is more than just the rear pipes, right?
Brabus Exhaust

I really like the AMG rims but I like the dunlop sp 9000 tires just as much. Great handling and they look really beefy from begind with a cool looking tread. I can't imagine putting another tire on these rims. The Brabus exhaust is a new item tuned just for the ML-500. It is more than just the rear pipes. Priced around $2,000 delivered. I should have it installed within 2 weeks. I'll give you a report after installation if you are interested.

Re: Brabus Exhaust

Thanks, I'll look forward to an exhaust report. I've currently got an email into PP to see if the pipes in their catalog fit the 500, but these are just the rear pipes (only $229 though).

I'm thinking next fall I might throw some more aggresive AT-type tires on the stock 17's and get a new set of 18x9's or 18x10's with something sportier than the stock dunlops for the summer. They'd still have to be able to tow up to max though.

Thanks
