Got our ML320, first impressions...

We'll we picked up our ML320 2 weeks ago and have really enjoyed it. I went and quickly had the armourfend tape applied to the front of the hood to prevent stone chips (you can't see it, that's the idea). First impressions, I'm really pleased with the look of the ML and the interior. The paint is so smooth and the interior 'reeks' of quality materials. The ML320 is not extremely quick but it is adequate. I really like the MCS. A very sensible design. My son is enjoying the third row seat. Great ride. Hopefully it proves to be as good a quality vehcile as it looks. Thanks for the help from the board when I was shopping. Here are a couple of photo links:

http://pages.cthome.net/jeff968/ml320.jpg

A very rare cloth interior...

http://pages.cthome.net/jeff968/ml320int.jpg

Iwan:

The cloth seats are manual and adjust in six directions. Most interior options in the US are not available individually, but as part of packages which also require the sunroof. On the other hand, the ML is a bargain here compared to southeast Asia.

Re: Got our ML320, first impressions...

Jeff:

Congratulations on your new ML. The pictures are very nice. I will be picking up my ML-320 on Thursday--I had only been thinking about for three years. Since I refuse to get the sunroof, I will also have the rare cloth seats. Cloth seats do not look as nice as leather seats but they are usually more practical and comfortable. The only option I purchased was the xenon headlights. I believe I have the only base ML with xenon headlights that has been sold in the US.

Did your dealer activate the tilt-down feature on the right-hand mirror? When I asked the sales consultant today about activating it, he said that this feature was only available with the M2 package. He either did not understand my question or the sales brochure is incorrect--as with the wood around the rear window switches.

Java and Orlando...

Java, Armourfend is a company that sells a clear tape that applies to the paint of the car and protects it from rock and stone chips. When applied you can hardly see it. The idea is that in 5 years you can have it pulled off to reveal your mint, original paint. Then have another piece put on and your back to where you started. The technology was developed through racing efforts. The pieces are cut for the application. There were about 25 different pieces for the ML. I purchased only the hood which also covers the top/front of the fenders. The cost was $200. I think it looks 1000% better then the bug deflector. It is used on many high end cars such as Porsche or Ferrari.
Orlando, I really like the cloth. It lightens up the charcoal gray interior. It has the cloth only on the inserts. I barely made it into the ML320 budget wise so I have to stay off the option list. We needed the third row seats and they FORCE you to purchase the sunroof package when you get the third row. The color black was no extra cost. We paid $36.8 for the car. I asked about the tilt side mirror as well and was told it is not on my car. The manual seat works for me as well as my wife is a lot shorter then I and I can quickly move the seat back with it. I'm installing the MB CD changer from Autoclass.

Re: Java and Orlando...

Jeff:

I called 1-800-FOR-MERCEDES today and they told me that it was another misprint in the brochure. Apparently my sales consultant was correct. Willingness to pay is my issue rather than the actual cost--I will just right them a check for the car. Including the Bay Area 'advertising' fee of $400, I paid a very reasonable $35.8 k. You received an even better deal.

I currently have a car with leather and power seats and another car with cloth and manual seats. The cloth seats are frankly more practical than the leather seats. Both cars have sunroofs, which I never use, because it was the only way I could get ABS from Acura/Honda when they were purchased. I will pay for a sunroof for safety/performance/functional improvements, but not for cosmetic improvements.

Enjoy your ML!
