I bought a new 2002 ML 500 a few weeks ago and have already put on the MB molded running boards (for Grandma but the white lights are cool), rear MB mud flaps and the hood protector. I live on a gravel road and am trying to keep it as clean/protected as possible.

Does anyone have the MB fender flares? or aftermarket?

Is there aftermarket front mud flaps that will work with the MB boards? or can the MB ones be modified to fit?

I saw the large sunroof wind deflector that goes between the luggage rack rails, similar to Xterra. Anyone have one of those? The dealer in Kelowna Canada can't seem to find it -- is it after market?

I was also looking at the MB brush bar. I couldn't decide if chrome or black would look better with a brilliant silver vehicle -- any opinions? My wife thinks a larger bar would look better, not huge but larger than MB -- any sources?

So far my wife and I love the car.
This list has also been very helpfull, thanks.
Doug,

Ah, another BC resident. Always nice to have that! :-)

Regarding the deflector for the roof, it is the Skyview roof deflector. However, it is very expensive (over US$300) if you want to have it retrofitted.

You can probably retrofit normal Canadian Tire truck flaps to the fronts, but they probably won't look as nice.

As for the brushguard, aftermarket ones are currently not compatible with the '02 models. I wouldn't recommend a full-sized brushguard either. I like the one that I currently have on my own ML, but wouldn't mind the larger styled Style II either. Oh and for a silver vehicle, I would definitely go with chrome.

If you want the following brushguard, don't delay as my understanding is that MB has stopped bringing new ones in and everything left is ex-stock. The dealer here in Vancouver (Boundary Rd) currently has a special on them actually.

Drew:

Thanks for the response.

Are the bars on the black ML the style II ones?
They look to be slightly smaller than the ones on your vehicle.

Also, any opinion on the fender flares?

Thanks
No, the brushguard on my ML is the same one as on the black Opal '02 ML320. The lights just make it look a bit narrower in the picture, I guess.

Oh I would skip the fender flares I think, especially since you drive on gravel roads. Debris can get inbetween the insides of the fender flares and the fenders themselves, and cause a sanding effect to the paint under the flares. Definitely not what you would want!
Yes, the Style 2 it is a lot wider. You can see it pictured below. Note that it is very expensive (CDN$1075, excluding the optional $800 skidplate). The brushguard that I have is about $600.
I think my wife and I both prefer the wider ones, but w/o the licence plate bracket. I notice that on yours the licence plate mounts behind the bars. How long do you think it will take the RCMP to notice we're missing a front plate?

Thanks for the pix.
Front plates are mandatory in BC and it doesn't take long for them to notice it. I've asked the officers in the past :-).

Yes, my license plate mounts behind the bars, but because of the height of the wider Style II brushguard, this arrangement will not work.

FYI, in order to install the Style II brushguard, your front bumper will have to be removed, and two holes drilled into it as that is how the brushguard mounts (through the bumper, to the frame).

Good luck!

I'm not too sure about the brushguard's inverted V-shape match with the V-shape of the bumper grill. This was something that they changed for '02. The bumper grill used to be an inverted V as well.
