Next order of business: Front end work

Now that my engine / body work and electrical issues have been sorted I'd like to fix the front end of my truck. When I turn my wheels at a stop when parking etc there is a loud crack sound. It doesn't matter which way I turn the wheels. Any ideas what this could be? Btw the way my tires are excessively worn out on the outer edge on both front tires. Once this is taken care of she'll be like a totally different beast

hmm ok just to make sure .. its mechanical/metalic crackling?...not the crackling your tires make on rough conrete... ?

A lot of people experience a whine from the power steering pump being under high load but i have not heard of crackling :/ maybe our resident mechanics will chip in...

Lol I didn't say crackling I said a loud crack sound, yes could be metal flexing and cracking or binding. Im not talking about Rice Krispies lol. I know what a power steering whine sounds like I've owned a couple Ford trucks back in the day

There is a service bulletin out there on the cracking/creaking noise. It is basically the plastic bushing on the suspension torsion bar wears/splits etc and then makes a creaking noise. The bushings are $17 each from Benz so if that has anything to do with the noise it can be a cheap fix. When these go they can put the alignment out and you'd see tire wear. The front end would be down compared to the rear level instead of being about the same if this was your problem.

Not sure what else cracks or creaks but someone should know.

Let me state that when mine cracked (3 times now, but it does go off road) that the popping noise never happened with the truck stationary and just turning the wheels.

I would get a friend to turn the wheels while it is park and see if you can isolate it more to the front. I think it is a front suspension part. The popping noise if it is a torsion bar bushing will be more towards the middle of the truck.

Hey Noodles I appreciate the info. It could be the ball joints or a tie rod end. I'll do that soon and then jack it up and take a look.
