Have fun. Im off work til next friday with nothin to do so i"ll be around if u have any. Take your time. Post pics once u get it off, i"m interested to see.
For sure man i will! how do you get the egr nut off? what size wrench do you need? shit i may only have a 22mm which is too small. anyone use an adjustable wrench? also one othe bolts to the intake on the egr pipe looks.tight like my socket wont get in thwre. any tricks?
I used a small crescent wrench on the nut. PB Blaster will be your friend.
Are you talking about the 2 small bolts attaching the line to the manifold?
There either 8mm socket or 10mm. I had no problem using my 3/8 drive socket to get them off. The torque on them is almost nothing, like 8 NM
Ok got the nut loose. Should the.line pull up and out of the egr? It seems frozen in there even the nut.is.free.of the threads. i have 1/2 drive only unfortunately thats all the store had.for.this type.of.socket! i wonder if a 6 point will do it. if i cant get them off i should still be abke.to.remove the intake manifold tho right? I would just like to clean that pipe while im there as.it.seems to be.a.issue with these trucks
Tap it lightly upwards, it should pop out of the egr valve. I know im going to get punished for this, but i have never used anything but a standard 6 point socket set on any of the bolts on my ML. Do so at your own risk though.
haha yeah I wondered if they'd work fine but I bought the correct sockets just in case. I'll use those on the rest of the job I just couldn't get to the egr tube bolts in the mani with the big ass 1/2" drive.
On the injector harness do I just push the wire clips on each side of the connector and pull up? Im just making sure before I fuck something up. So far so good thoough. You've been a great help man
Dont get ahead of yourself.
1. Disconnect fuel supply
2. Disconnect fuel rail with injectors
3. Remove crankcase vent hose
4. Disconnect vacuum lines
5. Disconnect electrical connectors
6. Remove bolts from left and right combination valve (secondary air injection valve) and remove valves
7. Dismount intake manifold.
In answer to your question though, yes. Squeeze and pull.
Shit man i didnt realise how many wores were connected to this harness!!
Well I am going to leave the rail and ijectors in the manifold when I pull it. I know I don't have to pull those out and since they arent leaking I am not going to f*ck with it. There are wires running to the alternator and to the block on the passenger side and also one thin and very tight (stupidly tight) wire running to the ac compressor into a plastic cylinder connector of some sort. It seems to spin and I have to get to it from underneath which is a bitch. I am not sure how to disconnect this one short of cutting and splicing afterwards which I dont want to do for various reasons. I am going to try to get the intake out by manuvering the harness from side to side. I think I may have just enough room to get it out without having to disconnect the rest of those wires. I guess I'll give it a try and report back.
