SRS Light ON ...My Scanner will not Erase

Took my door panels off in order to upgrade my side view mirrors and now my SRS light is on.

Anyone know why that happen??? and how do I get rid of it.

I have this code reader ZI got off ebay.
U380 Universal Engine Scanner Code Reader OBD2'OBD II | eBay

When I run a scan it tells me I have no code errors, but my SRS light is on..What gives...

Is it because its a cheap scanner??

That scanner will not handle the MB specific things. Another China bargain.
You will need a lot more than that to get past the basic emissions codes.

Also SRS codes are hard codes, meaning that they are stored until the problem is fixed
and then the code can be cleared. If the SRS light came on you have a an SRS problem.
I pro grade scanner or MB Star system will read the code and tell you what went wrong
with the system. It could be as simple pinched seal belt buckle wire or something as
crazy as the clock spring. Without a code you are spinning your wheels.

Did you disconnect the side air bags when you removed the door panels?
That will set off the SRS light and you will probably need a visit to the dealer to get things straightened out. Hopefully you will not set off the airbags.

Even the best OBD II scanners will not read nor reset the Mercedes specific SRS codes.
Mike

[EDIT: When I said "Even the best OBD II scanners" I meant the units available to the shade tree mechanics. This does not include the Snap-On, very expensive, commercial analyzers, which I would not classify as a common OBD code reader.]

Am I right in assuming that a snap on scanner with NOT reset my SRS code????

The only way is the dealer....Just hate paying $150.00 for pushing a few button on a scanner.

The reason I ask is because I know that is the scanner my Local Mechanic has..

Yes a Snap-On scanner will erase the code, (providing that you are absolutely sure you reconnected both air bags), but he has to access the SRS/Air Bag section on the menu to do so.

This tool DOES NOT work with any vehicle that uses the CAN protocol. CAN protocol is not supported.

if your car have CAN BUS protocol. please purchase U480 as below link...

The U480 is a basic code reader, It does support the can protocol but only scans for basic engine codes.
It does not read nor reset the SRS codes.

The Snap-On unit is a commercial, very expensive, code reader / analyzer and is not something very many people have in their garages.

I am going to take off my door panels again today to make sure I reconnect the airbags in the door. Then its off to the local shop to try and get rid of the code.

I think its time to buy a pro grade scanner with all the cars I have around me.
