2001 ML320 rough/hard start

Hi all

So recently my 2001 ml320 has been acting up again. This time the car is very hard to start. Once you turn the ignition the car turns over but keeps turning over for at least 10 seconds before it finally starts. A way around this is if you turn the key to start it let it turn over for 3-5 seconds stop and then restart it it starts right up again. If you let the car sit for anything more then 10 minutes it does this. Otherwise if you shut it down and restart right after you do the above it starts right up. It is a pretty consistent issue which baffles me.
I'm guessing maybe its the fuel pump? another person suggested its the cps? I have replaced the cps in the past and was about to again, but just wanted to make sure that is a good route to go otherwise I'd be throwing $50 down the drain.

Anyone have any ideas? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Also somebody did a hit and run on me recently and hit my front driver side fender. I have a feeling my deductible will be more than doing it myself. Anyone know where I can get a Driver Side Front Fender Silver for cheap?

A aftermarket fender is like $155 (as low as 4130) I cannot comment on the quality since I have never used that part. Do a google or go to eBay.

If the starting issue happends with the engine warm, that is a common sysmptom of a CPS. In that case the OE Bosch CPS is the reliable sensor from aftermarket, no name sensors or auto retail parts store brand sensors have reported issues.

If the starting issue is with engine cold - then basic battery test, fuel and air intake cleanup needs to be done to determine where the problem lies.

Keep the faith, and provide more info so others can be more helpful.

Keep the faith !

Mines doing the same, I've narrowed it to the fuel pressure regulator in the fuel filter. Might as well do the fuel pump too...

Most common issue with long cranking times is loss of fuel pressure in fuel rail. Fuel will leak back into tank through faulty fuel pressure regulator in filter or check valve in the pump.
