ML High Mileage Help (212,000)

Hi, I am taking over servicing my mom's 2000 ML 320 b/c my dad is no longer able to keep up with it due to his Alzhiemer's. We have had the car since it was new and it has 212,000 miles. Recently, I took it in for a major service overahaul and left a little puzzled. They indicated we needed rear shocks, front ball joints, coolant flush and brake flush and spark plugs only. We did all of that, however, I was wondering about a few other things. The items below I was actually advised NOT to do, the service rep at the MB dealership said he would NOT DO ANY of these things b/c they had never been done before and said they were all too aggressive. Please advise.

1. change transmission fluid and filter ( I know it is "for life of vehicle" but have been told we should do it. He said this may cause the transmission to blow due to the new fluid.

2. fuel system cleaning --ie injectors etc Again, he said too aggressive

Any thoughts? What would you guys do? They have always driven a Mercedes and have gotten rid of them in the past with 350+ miles on them, but that was when my dad kept up with the service. Advice? What else should I do or not do?

Thanks

If I were you I would absolutely use fuel injector cleaner and wouldn't worry about a problem. As far as the transmission fluid is concerned, I would ask myself how long I plan on owning the SUV. If the answer is for another 100,000 miles, then change the fluid. If the answer is until we sell it next month, don't change it.

My 2 cents.
