Car won't start on first attempt, always starts on second attempt

Hello all. I'm looking for some help to determine if I need a new battery.

The car has trouble when starting cold. The car was left unused for a month. A few days after using the car again, I noticed that that it often won't start on the first attempt. It sounds like it starts and the engine turns over but then it quickly shuts off and illuminates the battery warning light (I think there's also another light illuminated, probably just the seat-belt light). When I start the car again, it always starts and the engine stays on. The CEL is not illuminated and there are no codes stored.

Do I need a new battery or could something else be wrong with my ML?

Edit:
In another thread, I noticed that someone replaced their crankshaft position sensor and it resolved the issue. I just replaced mine a year and half ago and I hope they last at least two years... Another person says their mechanic thinks it may be a camshaft position sensor. I've never replaced that so I guess that's a possibility.
