2000 ML430 BAS ESP ABS light comes on when turn wheel to the right

Hello all! i am new and have enjoyed the all info i have read. here is my issue: 2000 ML430 BAS ESP ABS light comes on when turn wheel to the right. I believe there were actually 2 issues but i have managed to repair all but this last one. Initially, i could also feel the ABS activating interrmittently when pressing the brake. below is THE list:

Step 1 - replace brake switch - no change
2. - check tire pressure and size - good
3. - test battery with it started or not with a voltmeter - 12.4v & 13.8v-good
4. - remove battery cable for 3 minutes to reset then recalibrate - no help
5. - check transmission connector & found fluid! Cleaned it. ABS issue fixed!

Some maintenance history: all brakes were replaced about a year ago, tires new about 2 years ago, 210,000km, truck drives only about 12,000km/year.

Test drove & lights went out after cleaning the tranny connector. Turned wheel all the way to the left & no problem. Turned wheel all the way to the right and the lights came on again. If I drive for a bit & shut off vehicle the lights will go out until the infamous sharp right turn. The moment the 3 lights come on the ABS will go off(when press brake).

I suspect wheel sensor or wiring?

Few weeks ago I started my 2000 ML430 and it would start fine but the radio would ask for a security code and that BAS ESP light would appear on the cluster. However it would turn off after I would start driving a few feet. I took it to get looked at. My battery was in need of replacement. It was replaced, but the BAS ESP light still appeared at idle. Greg Fura (MB trained in Germany Mechanic at TanzTech here in Sarasota, FL) instructed me too straighten the wheel, turn it to the left, full lock. Then turn it all the way to the right, full lock.
It worked for me, I hope you have the same luck. Your just resetting the sensor.

1/ please fill in your profile.

2/ re; 5. - check transmission connector & found fluid! Cleaned it. ABS issue fixed!
you should change the connector as it will most likely just leak again

3/ when you are turning the steering wheel - is the car moving forward or stationary?
edit: i reread your post.... i assume moving... i assume the abs activation and the bas-abs light illumination are simultaneous..

4/ check for codes!

5/ assuming abs light comes on if the car is moving the wheel sensor does indeed seem extremely likely (to my un-expert opinion . maybe search on how to test wheel sensor(s). as a minimum you might try cleaning and inspecting all 4.

good luck.

+1 on the trans connector. I am sure it is the 13 pin unit known as the pilot bushing.
MB has an improved design with better sealing and more durable o-rings and they
are very inexpensive.

As far as the other items please try the suggestions already posted and more than likely
people here will help you solve the problem.

Update: i had it to the dealer. they did not tell me info about the codes but did test a bad/interrmittent wire lead for one of the wheel sensors. It is orderd and i scheduled for a return visit. they estimate one hour ($140) plus part. has anyone ever relaced one of these on their own?

You now have to check your charging system with a digital volt meter. The BATTERY being on could mean either the battery or the alternator being faulty.
