ml 270 cdi engine pulley has developed a squeak

Hi all i'm new to this forum and just like some tech help


My problem is that i own and drive a merc ml 270 cdi i have owned and enjoyed driving the motor for 3 happy months but this morning i came to the car and started it and heard an unusaul noise coming from under the bonnet.

Now i'm no mechania but do have a little knowledge about cars.
The noise its self is an intermittent squeal/squeak coming from one of the engine pulleys at the front of the engine? is this an easy fix or am I in trouble(should i stop driving it?) Its on of the pulleys at the top of the engine in the middle of the top three group of pulleys Any help would be grate fully appreciated thanks again scott ps it isnt the belt its more of a bearing dry bearing type squeal!

You will have to remove the serpentine belt to determine which pulley is at fault, but in all probability it will be either the tensioner or idler pulley. After the belt is off a spinning by hand will determine which one it is.

Also while you have the belt off, you mind as well change it .

Depends on which pully. On gas models...the idler and tension pulley were often replaced...and the harmonic balancer was also an issue. HB was about $200...Idler is $20-30...tensioner is $120 or so. Belts are $30. Can you post videos or a diagram?
