it's 2025, Oct 8, and I'm dealing with enough leak on passenger side valve cover leaking on the exhaust manifold. I've checked the tightness over that cylinder, that end of the gasket, and it was a bit looser than 8 nm. What was the result of your cleaning and did you open valve covers and so forth? Thx, D Day, 560 SEL, 1988and if cleaning all the hoses and nipples doesn't get it done then off come the valve covers

I'm about to change The PCV systems on two or three 240 Volvos and am very alert on my 1988 560 SEL that one reason I had passenger side leak at the aft cylinder (4 or 8?) may have been excessive pressure due to "inoperative PCV valve. BUT I am unclear of my 560 SEL has a simple PCV arrangement. Basic replacement kits include a hose. I'm going to look more closely at diagrams, but I do NOT want to go beyond 8nm on he gasket bolts!
Eric:Hi Eric, Oct 8, 2025. Issue: enough leak from valve cover gasket to drip on exhaust manifold alarmingly (i.e. any smoke is alarming). I had just had a major head grind of both sides and was starting pretty clean on a 1988 560SEL that I overheated on my way to the shop to deal with overheating. I drove the 560SEL happily for a couple of weeks, only dealing with a high idle issue, and then noticed the leak at the valve cover, passenger side rear. I returned to the trusted mechanic asking if it was wise to simply tighten the valve cover. I did, and he checked it, but I was careful NOT to exceed 8nm. My question now is, as I watch carefully if the tightening after the couple weeks of moderate driving "solved" the issue or not... the question is: where do you stand on the choice of Permatex blue? I am reading here a lot of advice saying : No sealant. A seemingly simple concern seems fairly wide-spread and serious. Thanks for your experience on this matter.
