Question starting problem / code P0201 - P208 / P0341 / P0836

in the last week my ML did not wanted to start at once a total of 3 times.

if i wait a few seconds and try again it will start without any problems. sometimes Mil is on and sometimes not.

i connected it to an Scanner today and got these codes:

P0201 Injector Circuit - Cylinder 1
P0202 Injector Circuit - Cylinder 2
P0203 Injector Circuit - Cylinder 3
P0204 Injector Circuit - Cylinder 4
P0205 Injector Circuit - Cylinder 5
P0206 Injector Circuit - Cylinder 6
P0207 Injector Circuit - Cylinder 7
P0208 Injector Circuit - Cylinder 8

P0341 Camshaft Position Sensor “A” Circuit Range/Performance (Bank 1 or Single Sensor)

P0836 Four Wheel Drive (4WD) Switch Circuit

For P0341 i guess i just have to replace the cam shaft sensor, but how about the other codes about the injector circuit and 4WD circuit?

i couldnt find any answer to them here in this forum.

thanks
Max

Please explain your problem a little better. You will have to tell us when the problem occurs; is it while it is cold; restarting after the truck is hot.

Disregard the codes for the injectors. The injector circuit has been shut down to prevent overloading the cylinders with fuel.

When the event happens again, attach your scanner and monitor RPM's while cranking the engine. If there is no reading then that is a good indication that your Crank Pos. sensor is failing.

two times it happened when i turned off the car and try to start it a few seconds later. it try to crank but it dont start. i bring the key back to Pos1 and 5 seconds later i try to start again and it start as nothing happened.
So the engine was still hot.

today happened the third and last time so far. i drove home, parked the car in the Garage and tried to start it 30 min later. it crank but it dont start, i try again and it still wont start the 2nd time, the third time roughly 30 seconds later it started fine again and MIL was gone.

In all probability it's your CKP sensor. Just see what the RPM readings are the next timeit happens.

ok i just tried to replicate the problem again, i started the truck a several times when it was cold and every single time it started in a second as usual.

After i drove a couple of times around the block and have had the coolant at more then 80 C i stoped the truck and started to try again. this time it wont start for 3 times before it started again.

the RPM readings during the failed start was always around 220 RPM.
for the successful start the reader jumped from 0 to 1400 RPM at once. [and dropped to 600 - 700 RPM idle]

thanks for your help
Max

anyone have an idea what my results mean? i still get an RPM reading during cranking, even if its low with 220 RPM.

but my error codes say anyway that there is a problem with the Cam shaft sensor and not with the crank position sensor!?

and whats wrong with my 4WD system? (i mean the code P0836, during driving i dont have any problems)

For the time being, forget about code P0836, your main concern is should be the starting problem

The 220 RPM reading is how fast the engine is turning while cranking. The 1,400 reading is how fast the engine is turning when it is first started. Everything is in order.

Witek just posted info. on another thread. Please read his entry.

i tryed to replicate the problem again to check the if it sparks but i have been on a business trip for a week and after i came back it was impossible for me get the car to not start.
everytime it fire up the first try, even its hot. i even tryied to start the car 30 times in a row within 2 - 3 minutes but everytime it start at once.

The errorcodes are still there and the check engine light comes on once in a while but no problem for starting now.

any sugesstions what i should do? just change the camshaft position sensor according to the error code or just do nothing and wait it hapens again?

thanks
Max

That sure sounds strange!

Maybe the truck just needed a holiday?!

Hope it gets sorted soon; at least it's starting for now.

ok 1 week vaction let my truck run for 1 week without problems but yesterday hapend the same again. The truck was cranking but it just started on the third try. during the last week during daily driving i started my truck almost a hundred times during cold, warm, hot and no problem.

But this time the truck was already parking for 2 hours und coolant temperature was under 60C, so not realy hot anymore but no start during the first 2 trys.

any sugesstions now? should i just replace the cam shaft position sensor as the computer tell me?

thanks
Max
