Off road mud flaps for W163 ML

I do some off-road travel in our 2003 W163 ML350. It has original Mercedes mud flaps. They are fairly rigid and they restrict ground clearance when off road and constantly scrape on the rocks and anything too high can tear the mud flaps from their mountings. The rest of the underbody is however fine with plenty of ground clearance. Problem is removing them is not convenient because the doors will get very stone chipped on gravel roads and they are partially attached with double-sided tape.

I am seeking anyone with knowledge/contact/brands of good-looking quality and very flexible mud flaps that would be better suited to off-road duties that can flex when overcoming obstacles and rocks. Any help appreciated.
Phil.

esthetically, the mudflaps don't look good on ML (in my humble opinion). However, if you must have, I suggest you visit your local auto parts places... to get some idea.

In other words, the answer is you'll be making them yourself in all liklihood.

Modified mercedes mudflaps

Hi

I had the same problem with my mudflaps and decided to do a modification

The pictures are not that good, but you might get an idea. Mudflap 1: This is what the mudfalp looks like about a year after I have done the modification. I have been driving offroad since and it is working fine. You will also note that the mudflap is not fitted 100% as it should be (on the top), because a rock has pulled it off it's proper position BEFORE I have done the modification.

Mudflap 2: I have drilled a small hole close to the back of the mudflap. (I have done the same on both sides of each mudflap.) Then I have cut it at an angle with a carpet knife.
Now the mudflap is able to flex backwards when going over fixed objects. The mudflap is also rigid enough that it always goes back to it's original position.

If you want to see more clearly, I will take better pictures.

On the top picture you can see where the cutmark is. My gardenboy didn't do a good job when he whashed my ML yesterday. I had been driven on a wet dirtroad, and the sides of the mudflaps haven't been cleaned properly.
