Nice guide !
In addition to the premium fuel, add the topic of synthetic oil.

Also, check out this format, which would allow others to add to it.

Great suggestions.

1. Please refresh my memory on the synthetic oil debate, I don't recall that one...then I'll add it.

2. I like the formatting. I will try to incorporate it soon. However, if others would like to help out by submitting links to some of the issues already outlined, that would be quite helpful.

Another note: if you contribute, you will be recognized at the end as a contributing editor. (For those with egos to be fed!)

Great idea!.

I would add two more;

- malfunction of A/C actuators; unwanted hot/cold air or no air, ticking noise from dash.
- transmission O-ring leak

thanks.

The 'hum after shutdown' might include the small recirculation pump.

What about hyperlinks to Wolfgang's, Harald P.'s, and Ken Yee's websites. Lots of tech info and FAQ's at these.

This is an amazingly good idea! I wish the BMW forum had something so concise, yet well thought out. Bravo!!!

My only comment is to help stress the importance of profile info.. Suggest that locale also helps members understand your issues... for example, if you're in Canada or Europe, the answer to questions (such as, 'what do I need in order to add NAV') will be different from the answers for those in the US.

Thanks everyone for the input, keep it coming.

@mickey: I will try to fit the water pump in there

@bogie: will do some wordsmithing to the profile part to stress the issue

Another note, I will be switching to the Problem, Cause, Solution format but will not be using hyperlinks as (1) there are sometimes multiple solutions in multiple threads (2) I want to encourage new members to get used to searching on their own (3) I'm trying to make life easier for me with this, not harder.
