My insurance company, MetLife, rates the ML pretty damn well - it was the cheapest of any of the SUVs I was looking at, in terms of liability, including the X5.

Apparently - they considered the flammability of the X5 as part of the liabilty (maybe someone passing by would be lit on fire? :)

i got this newsletter from liberty mutual. it is in my surprise that oldsmobile bravada and GMC Jimmy 2dr/4dr have a better rating than the M class. Interesting, since they also get their info from the HLDI (which shares their website with the Insurance Institute for Highway safety), which in turn rated the related GM products as 'poor' and the ML as 'best overall pick'.
My 02 ML500 costs only $35.00 per year more than my previous 98 ML320. Its also a bit less than my 01 E320 4matic. I live in a suburban area of a large city with high rates and my ML ins. cost is only $1200 per year carrying 1 million liability $250 deductable on collision and thats with uninsured motorist coverage and 0 deductable on comprehensive/fire/theft.
I'm also a bit confused about the theft number. Unless they mean vandalizm or theft of interior components I would think that the M class is immune to the common are thief thanks to the laser cut transponder key.
