i pedal my "1986 Miyata 1000" the 11 km to work through the woods everyday except if have to do errands. I laugh at the fools crawling along the block highway as I cross over the overpast. Last year i did 116 round trips to work (and this is ottawa - 6 months of winter - you do the math how many days I missed). Saab 9-3, ML320 and BWM R11RT all site at home. Know what? the pedal back and forth is the best part of my day! (you might try it!) cheers.
I would pay money to be able to bike to work!! Unfortunately it is 20 miles one-way with a bunch of streets without bike or emergency lanes; too dangerous for a bicycle

I can relate, the 13 miles I drive would be very dangerous on a bike. Defeats the purpose of owning a strong/safe MB vehicle.

I drive about 10 miles per day. When else would I get to use my truck? Last time I did the math, we're only talking about roughly 25 cents per mile in gas costs.
Yea, that's about right. And I love to drive the ML everyday too. It's a great ride.
Take a taxi in NY City
Initial Fee $2.00
each 1/5 mile (4 blocks)$0.30 (1 mile= $1.50)
This makes the ML see very economical.
But, if you have the opportunity to ride a bike, that is great. You will be in great shape and look really good getting in you ML when you wish.
The beast stays in the garage/driveway most of the time now. My wife and I carpool, I drop her off downtown and then head to my work where the parking is free. The total commute is about 16 miles, all city. We picked up a C230K sedan this spring, and besides only having to fill it up once a month, it's a fun ride......but......I miss the big boy, with the windows open on a cool morning, just cruising into the office, I miss that. The little red rocket is fun as hell to drive , but there's nothing like relaxing in the ML.
I look forward to the days when we have to drive in separately.
And for biking, I'd love too and I get endless grief from the hardcore bike guys I work with cause I don't, but even they agree that the route I would take would require a kevlar bodysuit, and that might not be the greatest experience.

I only live 6 miles from work and though I did bike it once, it was very hair raising. I was in fear of my life for 5 miles of the trip. It's a rural route where people fly around corners and no one ever expects to encounter a bike. I learned the reason for that. It's a shame to be so close and drive, but I'm pretty sure I'd be killed if I continued biking.
Bogie, where in Boston do you live that you can make a distinction in bad driving. I lived in the Boston Metro area for 10+ years and no matter if you are in Downtown Boston near South Station or in Framingham one thing is for certain NO ONE uses turn signals, NO ONE cares for pedestrians, and NO ONE understands that horns do nothing but piss other people off.
I now live in the DC Metro area and I have realized that I would rather the above then someone driving 30mph in the passing lane with their hazzards on, it seems to be a regular event here. Driving any vehicle in either of these cities is more stressful than fun.
As for the ML, it sits under a pollen guzzler all day, FX stays garaged and the soon-to-be-wife drives the e65(745) to work (she works at an NGO where they pay in popcorn and peanuts so imagine her pulling up everyday with a better car than the President....it's pretty funny)
I now bike 18 miles to work and 18 miles home, because we have a few beach vacations set for this summer that I would rather look good at than scaring some poor kid away looking like a beached whale. I turned 30 two weeks ago and I thought I heard someone say 30 is the new 20 - THEY LIED! I now work twice as hard to keep what I hardly had to work for in my teens and early 20's. Biking seems to be the least stressful on the body, mind AND pockets.

I miss driving my Ml430 everyday too. Now I`m stuck driving the sedan instead. Nothing like beeing a little higher than the rest of the cars in traffic. My next purchase could be a scooter if the fuel prices keep rising.

I agree, that's why I commute in my ML350. Even in heavy traffic, sitting up higher is a plus.
