I would like to upgrade from the original OEM 16 in wheel on our 98 ML320 to the 18 OEM wheel.
I just need a sanity check before I order the extended wheel bolt from the more experienced folks on this forum.
If the original wheel is 8 in width with an offset of 62 mm and the new wheel is 8.5 in width with an offset of 43 mm, I need to extend my original wheel bolt by 25 mm?
Since the original is 28 mm in shank length, I need a 53 mm shank bolt? Is this possible? The longest extended bolt I know of is 50 mm.
Am I calculating something wrong on the wheel offset calculator?
If there is a good place to purchase these bolts, please also let me know.
I had the AMG 18" OEM wheel package on both, my former 2001 ML 320 and on my 2005 ML 500.
In both vehicles, the dealer did not see any need to install extended bolts, even though I asked them specifically on both ocassions. I have 170,000 miles of driving with those wheels and all is fine.
I really like the 285/60R18 tires on those wheels. They look pretty beefy with the increased AMG 18" wheel's offset.
