Changed spark plugs/wires - Truck won't start

I just followed the detailed DIY steps in this forum for changing the spark plugs on my 02 ML 320 since it has 94k miles. I replaced my OEM plugs with Bosch FR8DPP33 plugs, and also got a set of Beru wires, and replaced those as well. I made sure each wire "snapped" onto the spark plug, and also that each wire was going to the appropriate plug (following the "a" "b" pattern on the engine block that matched the "a" and "b" on the coils).

After installing the new parts, the car starts and then shuts off. It starts up, then acts like it's about to knock off, then revs to 2500 RPM for about 2 seconds, then shuts off completey. When this happens the mileage display gives me the "Error" message. No other error lights in the dash (service engine soon, etc.) are present when this happens. Any ideas what could be going on here? I really don't want to have to have this towed to a shop. Before the spark plug change the car would idle a little rough, but ran fine. It had also thrown the 0303 code (Misfire in cylinder #3).
Now the "service engine soon" light is no longer lit.

I should also mention that in order to get to the plugs on the passenger side I removed the MAF. I had it sitting on the grill, and while working, I knocked it onto the concrete garage floor. I suppose there is a chance that the sensor could have been damaged, but given the hard plastic shell, I didn't think this would be the problem. Is there any way to test it?

Any thoughts or ideas would be greatly appreciated!

The rising and falling of the idle is indicative of a large air leak. Check to see that everything is attached correctly on the air intake hose. If there are no leaks then do the procedure below.

Try this procedure .........turn the key to the on position and then very slowly depress the gas pedal until it stops and then very slowly let up on the pedal. Turn the key off and then after about 10 secs. or so start the truck. DO NOT TOUCH THE GAS PEDAL AND LET IT IDLE ON ITS' OWN FOR 5 mins.

That was exactly the problem! I managed to disconnect the MAF long enough for the truck to stay running while I checked the engine for air leaks. Sure enough, the vacuum hose had completely detached from the engine (apparently knocked out while I was removing spark plug wires). I restarted the truck after reinstalling the hose, and now it runs better than ever. Thanks for the help!!!
