But maybe he is referring to it as having a 'custom' interior because he ordered that particular wood hue and colour from the manufacturer at the time he specified the options for his truck?
The wood might look different in person... if I look at it I will report back

First, I didn't ask for your opinion ... I was asking if it was a Designo... and if you live in an area that is that close minded... I feel for you.
I actually like the color of it and the interior... like I said before, I would change the wood back to original.
i actually like it also, i just think that it was overdone with the wood being so tacky. i loved the slk when they first brought back the idea of two tone leather.
I believe Kajtek might have a similar designo ML55. I like that wood color, well I love it, just not with that interior color combo. It looks a lot nicer with all black like in the GL450 Premier Edition, or in the Java interior (which some MLs had this combo).
It seems generally to match the photos in the 2001 M-Class brochure for the Cognac Designo edition (slight differences, perhaps, as the brochure depicts the ML55 version). There is one here in town with that package and it is quite striking. The grill on your pictured vehicle looks like an ML430 piece, however.
