Definitely leave the projectors... If I end up getting an ML that is older than 02 I am doing this upgrade.

i also had this thought in my mind at one point. The older headlights with xenon non-projector appeal to me and look more original to the traditional mercedes ML look. The projectors look somewhat aftermarket and were one of those changes that look like they were only changed to look different.
A few examples I have in mind are compare the 996 porsche to the 997 they went back to the round headlights porsches are known for. Compare the ferrari 328 round tail lights (4) to the 348 (testarossa style long tail light piece), then back to the 355 4 round tailights. Only in this case projectors have a practical application and they have to work around that technology, but my opinion is the older standard looking headlights look better. It's probably because the projectors were first observed in cars like the 1990 300zx or lexus E300 which didn't appeal as classy cars.
