Hi all, just joined this forum as I recently bought my 2002 ML55. Bought it in winter so had no idea that the A/C wasn't working properly. Having read all several posts and had the system recharged with refrigerant, it seems as though I have the dreaded failed blend air actuator.
Has anyone had it fixed professionally, either at a dealer or indy. I'm curious what I might be looking at for repair, ballpark.

Congratulations on your purchse!
The ML55 is a great SUV and you got it in the best model year! ('02)
Are you sure it's the blend air actuator - What are your symptoms?
Sorry it took me forever to get back to the forum. I'll get pics up today since we finally have a nice day and the truck is washed. I love the truck totally, but it clearly has 2 issues that are typical for these. Leaky power steering and only warm air out of the vents. I had the system checked and they did evacuate and refill with r134a, but said it really wasn't low. They also said that it clearly is working but something is not allowing cold air into the cabin.
This was at a basic A/C shop, not MB dealer or indy. Based on all I read, I'm willing to bet its the actuator, but as many other posts say, I don't want to take it to the dealer and pay for hours of diagnostics. I'm leaning toward taking an afternoon and trying to get in there and replace it. If it doesn't take care of it, then I'll take it in to get the deeper dive.
If your power steering is leaking from the low pressure hose that connects to the radiator, it is covered under extended MB warr 10year/unlimited miles. If its not it may be the o-ring between the p/s reservoir and pump.
I replaced the one on my 1998 ML last year. Part was only 80 dollars. The job took me about 4 hours because I had to remove the dash. Not sure if there is an eaiser way to get to the blend air motor. Good luck.

Can you share your DIY experience on the dash removal ? Instructions on where and what screws/nuts/bolts I have to undo and any other pointers would be greatly appreciated. I have occasional ticking sound from the Air Blend Motor (I think), would like to be able to remove the dash completely to replace if it is the Air Blend Motor. I will be removing the center air vent first this weekend and then radio/center console if needed to verify problem before buying and replacing the motor.
It is the Air Blend Motor. A dealer can pull a code for that so can a Snap On Solarus. It was
stored in the Air Con code section. There are several Air Con codes. I just fixed mine thanks
to another members post and video. I had a very small sidewinder ratchet screw driver
that allowed access to the motor that lists for $150 from a dealer. I got one for $130. It is
a common problem on MLs and dealers rake in the cahs on the labor. A good tech can
do it in less than 4 hours and will bill out 8.8 hours.
How about doing it for about $130 in parts and less than 3 hours labor? If you can find a
good indie german car shop it can be done without the 8.8 hours of dash removal labor.
