Electrical Gremlins

Hi
Tonight, I was driving along about 40km/hr when suddenly I realised my left signal light on my dashboard was ON, (not flashing) without me touching the signal stalk at all... i try to signal RIGHT then LEFT, but that doesnt solve the problem.... I turn on my hazard lights and that cancels the left signal light...

Later on (no engine restart), my headlights turn off for no reason, toggling the headlight stalk does nothing to solve the problem either... I turn off the truck, restart it, and the problem went away...

Has anybody encountered a similar incident as described? I should say that I have a 2001 ML320 since new, original battery and have aftermarket HID headlights.

Any input will be greatly appreciated!

Your 'combination switch' is on it's way out and very likely the symptoms will get worse and eventually you 'll need to replace that combination switch.

I concur with pcy. Had a similar issue with another ML. When both headlights worked the radio would go out. When one headlight went out the radio would play. This must occur because the lighting system runs through the AAM and EAM along with a host of other features.

Hi pcy,
thanks for your response!

does anybody have a DIY or instructions on the replacement of the combination switch? After doing a search on this topic, it seems that an old batttery may also be the culprit...

any other ideas?

thanks!
