Hi all, I changed the parking/emergency brake pads on my 98 ML320. The "adjusting" screw froze. So, I used the penetrating oil and loosened it while changing the pads. I spent about half hour adjusting the screw to get it exactly right (not too tight, not too loose). After assembling everything back, with the emergency brake fully pressed, the truck still moves slightly. So, I need to adjust them further :-(
The question for the experts is: How do you guys adjust the parking brake without spending whole lot of time?
There is a parking brake adjuster under the truck, right above the drive shaft. Should I mess with it?
One observation - when I put the rear rotors about 1 year ago, I put anti-sieze compound behind the rotor (where it touches the hub, especially near the inner hole). With that anti-sieze compound being there, the rotor came off perfectly as soon as I loosened the hex nut without ever having to "hammer" the rotor. Why don't everybody put that anti-sieze compund there? Please note that I am not putting the compound in the area where the pads touch, just where the hub mates with the rotor.
