Air mixture motor DIY

I used to get a ticking noise from my dash, it used to go away if I turned the air control to the 'hot' position and then back to the 'Cold' position.

Now the ticking noise is gone ... and so is my cold air, lol

Reading through the forum, it definitely seems like its' the air mixture control motor that is gone.

I have read MADSLEG's fix, but it seem like it is for the recirculating air motor and not the Air mixture motor

http://www.benzworld.org/forums/w163...er#post2631210

Although farther down, he says they are the same motor.

http://www.benzworld.org/forums/w163...er#post2632782

Could someone please tell if if MADSLEG's fix above is the right motor that I should be looking at?

This post says MADSLEG's repair is for the air re-circulating flap and not the air-mixture flap.

Please help alleviate my confusion!!

yup its the same motor. Im guessing the guys just made their own name for the part. I just bought mine the other day and am planning on doing the job myself. I will be video taping the process so others can see the steps needed to do so. I dont plan on taking the whole dash off only the center where the radio goes.

here is the part you need..

In Madsleg's photos the arrow pointing to #2 is the Blend Air Motor (Air Mix Motor). The Fresh Air Circ. motor is not even in the photo since it is all the way to the right of the dash.

All the actuator motors in the A/C-Heater system are not all the same. Everyone has its' own part number and is VIN specific. So if you are going to do the job yourself, get the motor from the dealer, who will supply you with the correct one.

I thought this was not possible from the radio console, I thought you had to go MADSLEG's route, VIA the Glove box and SRS bag to get to the motor.

Is MADSLEG's (Glove box0-SRS) motor the one I should be changing, or is it Ron's fix for the Air blend motor (Radio console) the one that I should be looking at?

Air blend door is the one responsible for mixing hot and cold air. It is visible through the radio hole, for you to check it. But there is not enough space to do the repair. Therefore you will also remove the center console. 43sqd posted the PDF instructions for that. Madsleg did the same repair after removing the airbag and glovebox compartment.

Rainman, I wish you would all let us know what year and model ML you have. If you own a 1998-2001 then your motor looks like #53. If you own a 2002 and above then it looks like #54 , but both motors are in the same exact position; they only look different.
