New ML320 Owner

Hi All,
I recently bought a used ML320. I wanted to get a vehicle that was really good as a winter car to deal with the harsh Chicago snowy winters. After 2 weeks of owning it I am very impressed but it has some annoying quirks. For example My coolant light keeps turning on and off no matter how full the coolant level is. My HVAC controls back light goes on and off and if I give it a tap on the side it turns back on. This is only my second Mercedes because of previous experience with a C280. I went BMW for my last few cars but like the size of the ML320 and price over the X5 or X3.

I did some searches but could not find exact matches for my questions so if anyone could help I would appreciate it

1. What is a good spring replacement that is OEM quality but not as much. I found the EIBACH PROKIT SPRINGS set but was unsure on the quality of them.I do not want to alter the stock height.
2. Can I just buy an H7 Xenon kit ( like the ones on EBay) and plug them in or will it throw a sensor? Cause more complications and is there a kit that would fix those issues?
3. What fuel should I use? Premium?
4. Is the Pioneer Z2 really plug and play using the stock Bose amp?
5. What synthetic oil is preferred I know BMW recommends Castrol but am not sure what would be best to use during extreme low temperatures on a Mercedes.

Here is my ML320 and Summer car.

Use premium only.

Here is a list of approved oils for the ML: Mercedes-Benz Engine Oil Recommendations

I personally use Mobil1 0W-40.

Welcome...I love the bimmer...(Just sold my E46 M3)

Yes the H7 Xenon conversion kits will work. Ebay is a good place for a deal.

As far as springs go...if your in Chicago I know the roads suck (Im from Detroit). I wouldn't lower it as the ride will be even rougher. Premium or Mid grade should be fine and as asianml said, 0-40 Mobile 1.

The Z2 should work without any issues if your pre 2002. The bose amp uses standard wiring as opposed to newer ML's when they use fiber optics.

Wrong...your headlight is not designed to work with xenon lights, and your light pattern will be pretty messed up, probably blinding oncoming traffic. I would buy a set of the updated halogen lights and do the conversion kit on the projector, or just get the bixenon lights.

As mentioned in my previous posts in other threads, I recommend the projectors (My 2005 has them) The H7 kit worked perfect for me in my style lights.

Thanks everyone for all the useful info. I am a bit more confused on the headlights but I think it sounds like just leave them alone unless I want a headache. It is hard going from Xenon to Halogen but not a big deal.

I am still looking to buy a replacement springs for the rear suspension because one of them has a crack in them at the top. I DO NOT want to alter the stock height so anything that is OEM quality but not the price. Recommendations?

I always buy from Bavarian Auto for my BMW because they know BMW's. Is there a similar Mercedes dealer that is knowledgeable and sell good quality products at a better then dealer price?

For the rear suspension I would buy the unit of shock and spring combo (spring leg MBZ079525) from an aftermarket house. A little research shows them to be much more expensive than a few years ago. Shop around. Follow this link for more info (thanks, Wolfgang): Wolfgang's ML Page: M-Class Springs
