Hello fellow members, i recently encountered a problem with my 01ml55. my truck hesitated to start, tried again and turned the ignition keys and same thing. I tried it bout 4-5 times and waited another 2 mins to restart it again. I finally got it to start, but my quetstion is what possibility can be the problem. Now, the truck has 73,000 miles and im thinking the previous owner never change the sparkplug wires and the batteries. Hopefully its something minor like that. Could it be something else??should i get it serviced, and can someone tell me exactly what do they change or replace from a full service?? thanks..
Well I can tell you that this problem would not be caused by bad plugs or wires. What I can tell you is what you are describing sounds like a crankshaft position sensor. I would take it in to be sure but crank sensors are a pretty common repair, we do them all the time. Only other thing my be a weak starter. Crank sensors are also inexpensive and quick to change so it shouldn't be too expensive.
thanks alot, i will take it in to a mechanic and have the crank position sensor check. im hoping its something minor. thanks for your reply. so u dont think its a bad plugwires right??
Before you start replaceing parts pull a plug and look at it, it should be a honey color. Then clean the MAF it may be dirty, if the car sounds and feel's strong when trying to start its probely not the battery. It could also be a clogged fuel filter or like the last poster said the CPS.
No way, can it be plug wires. In order to get a no start you would need misfires on soemthing like 2/3's of the cylinders and the likely hood of them all going out at the same time is very unlikely. Also bad plug wires when they begin to fail are going to usually throw check engine lights for misfires. Also failures like plugs and wires can usually be felt way before they kill a car. Ask yourself over last couple months or so have you notice a rough idle or the vehicle shaking slightly at idle. Poor throttle response, and lack of performance. If you noticed something like this before the car started dying then well you may have bad wires or plugs. But like I said the likely hood of them causing this problem especially at 73k miles is really stretching for it. The dealership will also check your wires on an oscilloscope scope if you want to be sure they are good, but it's just gonna cost more money.
