I just purchased my 3rd MB an 02 320 with 79k charcoal on silver.....
Love it..The previous owner backed-up and tapped the bumper, broke a clip and I wan to re-adjust the bumper cover... Looks like the best way is through the bottom or the tail light... But I can't get the tail light off... Is there a trick after the 2 plastic bolts/screws

No trick. Pull straight out towards the rear of the vehicle (as if you are standing there holding the tail light and the vehicle drives off.) Once you get one off and see how it works, it will be clear.
There's a pin with a ball head that holds the taillight in place. As Bogie said just pull straight back horizontally with the ground. Don't turn or twist as that pin is plastic and can break. It holds on fairly tight - it will feel as if there is another bolt holding it on.
While you have it off you might consider putting adhesive foam insulation around the edge of the taillights where they contact the body. It will eliminate any squeaks from that area. There's a thread with pictures of how everything looks and you can see the pin that is holding it in place. Search for "tail light squeak".
