I own a 2001 ML430 and have a busted front fog light. Per review of my owner's manual, it contains instructions for replacing a fog light that appears to be a component of a headlamp assembly. I may be missing something, but my fog lights appear to be separate from the headlamp, thus I don't know if these instructions apply. My fog lights are below the actual headlight.
Thus, my question(s) - (1) Am I an idiot and am reading this manual incorrectly? (2) If not, could someone point me in the direction of instructions on how to replace the fog lights I am describing.

taeschmt, do you have an ML430 with the sport package?
The reason I ask is: the ML430 (1999-2001) without the sport package doesn't have fog lamps which are separate from the headlamps.
Only the ML430 with sport package has fog lights which are separate from the headlamp and integrated into the front bumper.
ps. Does the front of your ML430 look like mine in my avatar? If so you have the sport package and the procedure for removing the fog lights may be different from the instructions from the manual 43sqd kindly posted for you.
Sorry taeschmt, I am one of those forum members without a technical or DIY bone in my body and cant offer much help on this isssue.
I have a 2002 ML55 with the AMG sport package and round fog lights and my hand book instructions on removing the fog lights is the same as the instructions posted above by 43sqd which is for removing fog lights in stock MLs which come equipped with the angular fog lights.
I am sure that someone with a sport package ML or ML55, who has changed their fog lights, will chip in soon enough but do try doing a search on fog light removal and see from the profile of the poster whether the poster owns a sport package or ML55.
Best of luck!
ps. Please update your profile to show your location and more importantly your exact model type (2001 ML430 with sport package) as it helps forum members who are trying to help you. For eg. 43sqd is an experienced mechanic and if your profile had indicated that you had the sport package he would not have posted the instructions from the manual for a 2002+ ML.

Reason: 'ps. addition'
Fair enough. Unfortunately, I'm still struggling with this issue. Update on my progress thus far - I've popped off the fog light bumper cover and unscrewed the actual bulb assembly from the frame. However, I can't figure out how to disconnect the wiring. Does anyone have any suggestions?
While were on the subject of fog lights, my ML430 has an aux fog light button inside butno fog lights out. Does this mean that the previous owner sold them and if so how hard would it be to put new ones in.
Thanks,
Matt

Matt,
I read somewhere on this forum, a long time ago, that some MLs in different states in the US needed to have the fog light activated by the dealer.
All the information is on this forum but you must make use of the search facility - It is a great and invaluable source of information.
You will find that a lot of the more experienced members on this forum will probably not repond to some posts because they have been discussed so many times before and they expect new (or relatively new) members like yourself to use the search facility.
