wifey went to dealer to get spare key programmed this morning...
on the way back, right side of the ML was hit by Ford E-150 van...
i haven't seen the car yet but hear the rearview mirror came loose, right side mirror completely broke, some damage to right front door and right nerf bar was bent downward...
wifey is fine since it happened at low speed...
question: can i have my body shop to get me OEM running boards instead? i'd like to also upgrade to folding mirrors if possible... only concern is that it all happened on the right side only...
any advise to those u had experience with insurance companies and body shops?
Well I'm glad everyone is OK. I assume that your wife did get a police report. Before you even get the insurance company involved, get a couple of estimates from some reputable shops. That'll give you a pretty good idea how much it'll cost to do the repairs. If the police determines it's the other partie's fault their insurance (or yours) should pick-up the tab based on the no fault clause. If it's not your fault, as much as possible, avoif getting your insurance involved.
As for upgrading the running board, it'll be a good time to do it since the truck will be in the shop. However, I'd say get the parts yourself and you may even consider DIYing the thing. I'm not sure about the folding mirror since that was a package deal and I'm not sure which ones are wired ready for that. Talk with your service advisor, and I hope someone here who's done that mod would chime in.
my concern is if it's possible for body shop to submit quote to insurance for the damaged parts only but when enough funds to cover both sides (folding mirror & running board)
btw, it's the ford driver's fault... after hitting wifey's side, he also hit the rear of lexus that was in front of wifey...
Your body shop will not be submitting any quotes to any insurance company. It's simply a quote and they will act based only on your decision. After you get the quotes (note the plural!!!), you decide if you want to get the insurance com[any involved. However, since in your case the other driver is at fault, get the insurance involved!!! The insurance company (it could be theirs or yours depending on the no fault clause in your policy - someone in insurance business chime in here please) will send an adjuster to look at the vehicles and depending on their own estimate (completely independent of the estimates you should have obtained from the body shops) they will make a decision on what to do. They may actually say "totalled" depending on whatever factors they claim a vehicle is totalled. Otherwise they will offer to pay for repairs (the offer should be close to the body shop estimates). If the offer is not close to the body shop estimates, tell the adjuster and show them the paperwork.
As far as the other items go, you will have to negotiate with the body shop. That has nothing to do with the insurance company. So, for example if you want the running board installed, the insurance company will pay only for the step bars and if there's a difference, that's on you. The mirror thing is a bit different. I doubt any body shop would want to take responsibility for what basically is a modification of the vehicle from what the VIN states. Work with them but don't expect any warranty work of any kind. You get the parts, tell them what to do and what not to do and they follow your orders. If anything goes bad, they are not responsible, even though most reputable body shops will try to help you as much as they can. But, please, don't hold them responsible, not even if they system comes as a plug-in module. I suggest you talk with your SA first.
anyone know part #s needed for power folding mirror mod?
i know i can get it from steve but i'm not sure since body shop will know what parts are needed for such mod...
just drove the ML this morning to work...
1) need to turn steering wheel to the right about 35 degrees to make the car go straight
2) BAS/ESP light is on
3) rearview mirror came loose
I'm hoping you then had it towed to a shop. Judging from the scrape marks on the rim, she was moving at the time of the collision. I had thought that the van ran into her while parked. Ouch, at least the other guy's insurance is paying.
My experience after my accident in a nutshell: (was other guy's fault too)
His insurance paid everything, mine didn't even want to hear about the accident.
His adjuster came and cut a check for the estimated cost of damages.
Had the car towed to bodyshop of my choice, they paid. (My friend's.)
Damage came to over what the check was for. Bodyshop submitted the additional cost to his insurance and they directly reimbursed him.
In the meantime, I wanted additional painting to other areas of the car. Done at a discount since they already mixed the paint and did some of the prepwork.
When the car was ready, I got a two bills: one for the total repair amount less what the insurance company already reimbursed them directly. I paid the rest using the check from the estimate at the beginning; the other for my requested work. I paid that out of pocket.
Rental car was also covered by his insurance. I convinced them that I drive a luxury car, I want a luxury loaner. Had a G35- kept me happy.
Bottom line: I paid not a cent for the accident...only what I told them to do on the side.
just got my car back from the body shop...
they did good job except for 2 things...
1) no Inspiration Edition emblem on the right front door
2) no lights on rearview mirror and dome lights
i didn't have time to check at the shop cuz it was raining hard today...
Sounds great. Don't feel bad, they were bound to miss a few things. My door didn't have the black vinyl that makes the up the exterior B-pillar. Silly things like that...
They should fix it. The truck was not repaired to full working order and there are components missing. Don't settle by doing the work yourself or having to pay if any parts are needed. I noticed that my window had a noticeable scratch in it that was not there before the bodyshop had the truck, they replaced the window and retinted it to match how I previously had it.
went to body shop this morning...
rearview mirror is fixed...
they lost the inspiration emblem so they placed order and will let me know when they get it...
