Did I hear that Mercedes was bringing out a smaller SUV? Any chance there could be an AMG diesel version of that? Has AMG ever reworked a diesel for the North American market?
It's a rumor but I'm unclear if they're releasing a SUV that's smaller than the GL but a tad larger than the ML or if they are releasing one smaller than the ML. I've seen stories that support both assumptions where the SUV was called the MLX or the GLX. Below is a spy pic of the MLX.
I severely doubt that there would be an AMG diesel in the US. After all, the US doesn't even have the full lineup of diesels offered in Europe now. I'd love to see the larger diesel w164 sold here.
Not to mention, does AMG even do diesels? I didn't think so.

cmitch - in your picture it appears to be smaller than the current ML.
If they could build one in the Rav4 weight class (~3500lb) with an AMG diesel that would be appealing.
I'm inclined to agree that it is smaller than the ML. Earlier spy pics showed other ideas of what it was but that pic I posted is pretty much what I think it's going to be. It looks to be about the size of the RAV4 or Ford Escape.
AMG diesel? Sounds like an oxymoron to me! If you can afford an AMG then you can afford gas over diesel. And no, the diesel will not be faster than gas for similar engines.
Also, why would anyone want a smaller SUV at an AMG price?

Why would anyone want an AMG period? You could say that about all AMGs. I assuming people buy them typically for performance and exclusivity. They get exclusivity just by the fact that they are expensive and made in relatively low numbers. Performance would be interesting. If the vehicle is two thirds the weight of the ML that would help.
