2000 ML430 Air conditioning hose issue

Hello there,
So my 2000 ML430 came back from its service the other day. After my mechanic droppoed off the car I went out to move it under the shadeits getting to 95 degrees in adelaide) I started the car up, air con was running, moved about 20 ft and all of a sudden all I see is smoke pouring out of the hood. It was so thick I could not see the front of the car. I stopped immediately, switched her off, opened the hood, and once the smoke subsided looked at obvious things like hoses and aorud the mtor. There was a hissing noise coming from somewhere near the radiator. Funny thing was, when I moved the radiator the hissing would stop, pull it back, and it would start. Called my mechanic and he returned straight away. He had a quick look and could not see what was causing the hiss. Next day (today) I took it back in. It took him a while but he found the problem. One of the high compression hoses which runs from the receiver/dryer to the firewall was rubbing on one of the steel pipes from the ABS unit which sits underneath and it slowly wore away the rubber until a minute pinhole formed. Moving the radiator just caused the pin hole to close up. This rubber hose is only about 8 inches long and is crimped to steel piping on either side. anyway cost here is $250 to replace the whole lot. My mechanic is hunting around for some hose and have it re-crimped to save me some cash (He is my brother in law) So, not sure how yor air con hoses run in the US, but maybe something to check out and move away from those ABS pipes. 1 minute job to save a lot of bucks.
