Those of you who have driven both models, please give your impressions between the two in relation to performance, handling, build quality, engine sound and anything else of interest you detected between the two.
Yeah its really not a fair comparison. ML55 was good for its time but the ML63 is just insane on all fronts.
Interior build is exceptional, power output is through the roof. I was sad after I drove one recently because I had to get back in my 55. Now with all that said, I won't own one anytime soon but if you can afford the cost of the 63 why care about the money!
There is no comparison...it's the difference in 5 models years and a entirely different platform.
Same platform of the ML63 will be the 2008 ML550, and about $10K+ less, which means exactly the same savings on the depreciation hit, plus preorder to be one of the first in line for a full (rather than partial) model year.
The ML550 won't track handle like the '63..
It would not make sense to buy new ML63 this late in the model year - since the new ML550 will be fully equipted about $60-$62K..

I quite agree - I was just wondering what the subjective feel between the two actually is. My ML55 is my first vehicle above 130 bhp and I find the power (342 bhp) it has scary let alone imagine the power in the almighty ML63!

I mean did it leave you with the awful pyschological feeling that our ML55s are slow?

Oh it crushed me when I had to hand the keys back, one of those moments where the sales guy actually had to pry them out of my hands. If you drive the ML63, the 55 will feel terribly slow and I really mean slooooow.
If I floor my ML55 it some what pushes me back in my seat, when you floor the ML63 I swear you really feel like its blast off time. Granted I certainly felt the same way about my ML55 when I test drove it versus my old ML430 but when your comparing a 5.5 Liter vs a 6.3 and 340HP vs 505HP its really a HUGE jump in performance. Fit and finish are also on a completely different level and while I'm not a big fan of the W164's in general the aggressive styling of the ML63 sets it at the top my list. I hadn't heard about this ML550, seems you'd be insane not to go with this detail, I'm going to touch base with my sales guy to see what kind of deals they are offering.

My goodness! That's quite some statement - I imagine the ML63 must be a real MONSTER!
But seriously CAndrews, isn't the top speed of the ML63 155mph and the ML55 149mph? - Is 6mph that much of a difference?
Granted the 0-60 speed of the ML63 is at least a second faster than the ML55.
Dont get me wrong out there : I KNOW there is NO comparison btw the two models I am just trying to get an idea of actual practical everyday driving experiences btw the two - I would happily swap my ML55 for the ML63 in a heartbeat.
