Our ML320 is stuck in first. No other lights are on... PLease help...what should be do first/
We are going to try and reset the ECM by disconnecting battery then go get the computer read at Autozone.
Just wondering what some typical causes of this could be/
Thanks!
Unfortunately, one likely cause is the valve body within the tranny. On earlier MYs, the body was not shielded from settling grit so over time the small hydraulic valves became clogged. It is possible that a tranny flush and new fluid might cure the problem but that should only be tried after looking at the fault codes to eliminate other possibilities.

If you disconnect the battery cable, that will clear the codes that are presently stored. Just go have the codes read and let's see what they come up with.
I have had the same problem once. It was quite a cold winter and our ML430 got stuck in first too, this is a urgent/security mode. In our case it was due to the gearbox oil level which was too low. They just replaced a leaking bearing after checking out if there were error codes. Good luck.
