HI,
I have a 1999 ML 320 and it appears to have NO kickdown - How do I access the kick down button to check it? I can see it, but can't work out how to get at it!!
Got this from the slk forum... better throttle response and smoother shifting for most who have tried it on their auto slk's. I tried it on the slk and it works a treat... havent tried it on the ML yet but I'm sure I'll notice a difference.
1. Turn key to ON (before start)
2. Press throttle all way down
3. Hold for 5 secs
4. Turn key to off.
5. Release throttle.
6. Wait for 2 minutes.
Keep the key in for the entire time.
See how you go[] Seems to work for most who have tried it.
Tried this, this is what makes me thinks the button isn't working, as doing this had NO (zero) effect on the ML!
The switch 'clicks' but nothing happens.

thanks! will check this out - fule consumption is pretty poor (even for an ml) so sounds 'bout right!
Daft question - how do I check it is bad without buying a new one? Can I disconnect it and see if anything happens or does this screw up the ECU? I've had a look at it - it looks intact and clean...but...
Ok - problem sorted!
I removed the kickdown switch (eventually) - checked it and cleaned it - checked resistance with meter - all ok.
Cleaned MAF with carb. cleaner.
Reset ECU.
Went for drive - wonderful! different car!!! Actually drops a gear in kickdown to overtake - made wife say slow down - so must be ok!
Thanks for the help everyone - and to anyone else - clean your MAF!!
