I just purchased a 99 ML-320 with 60K. The check engine light is becoming nusance. Took it to dealer and they reported no problem. Left dealer and the second time started car it came back on. Is there a way to check this and clear without going to dealer?
This has been addressed many times here. I would say it is the most popular subject. Go to Auto Zone or Advance Auto and have them read for free. Get the codes and post them here. Sometimes they can tell you what they are but if get hold of an unknowledgeable person, they'll just confuse you.

Why would the check engine light come on when there is no problem? That dealer must be mad at you or something. LOL. Anyway, ok, as you said there is no problem so go to autozone and rent the odb2 code reader, hook it up to your odb connector underneath the driver side front area of the dash, press the read button and then if there are no codes and it passed, just press the erase codes button and youre cel light will be history.
