My transmission is slipping while in drive, on hill it will roll back about 2 feet or so then catch with heavy accelleration....also in reverse it will slip before it engages to drive also a triple clunk ....have it at dealer now but don't want to accept low fluid answer that I am expecting. Just purchased from non mercedes dealer and want to have him honor his minimal warranty first before paying somewhere else

Stick with it. I agree that you shouldn't accept low fluid for an answer. When you get it back, hopefully you can tell if the problem has been fixed. It should be difficult to mask the triple clunk you describe.
Make them honor their warranty. I would suggest that you should, in no way, accept having to pay the total bill yourself.

From what I have read here, there have been a few who have had issues, but it doesn't seem to be a wide spread problem. Most of the ML's issues seem to come from the many sensors that can show a false fault, yet have the authority to shut down systems that are working fine. Else, they annoy the hell out of you and can be costly to have diagnosed (at the dealership).
Called whatr will be my future service center in S A and real great guy....says one of three things that it would be....tranny itself, differential or i forgot the third...but said same....used dealer should fix and issue will not be masked if they claim to fix and don't.....pretty sad to have to play these games, bought in good faith....should service in good faith too...but you have to have some help to direct them apparently and thanks to y'all and MB we should do fine...
the third was ball joints just in case any one noticed the mem lapse....or cared???? any way if this helps someone with same...then I am glad I remembered
