i have an 03 ml350. i've realized lately that even when its sunny out in the middle of the afternoon my headlights are running while in auto mode. of course they switch off when i move the dial to the off mode but i always leave the lights on auto mode and never had an issue and they would never turn on during daylight and only at night but for some reason they're now on all the time! .... anyone got any clue y?
Alex, MY2002 and later models have an auto headlight setting. In conjunction with the light sensor, the headlights switch on whenever they need to - at dusk, in an underground carpark, going through a tunnel - and off again. After you leave the car at night, the lights stay on to illuminate your path for a set period (usually 30 seconds but you can adjust it). It's a great feature, and you never have to worry about flattening your battery.
amgmezo, some MLs are programmed to have daytime running lights. Depends which country yours is set for.
You will need a diagnostic check as it looks like your light sensor has gone.
good call.... my car's still under warranty so i might as well go to the dealership and get this checked out. just thought it may be DIY job or something rather than spending my time goin to the dealer. thanks

I'm in the USA, Chicago to be exact. i'm aware of the DRL feature but my ML isn't and never was wired for DRLs. when i first purchased the truck brand new my lights would only turn on during dusk or when in an underground parking lot, etc. and now they're always on. thanks
I am having a similar problem.. When I put my lights in auto mode I notice at night that after I lock the doors and leave, the lights are still on.. Do they turn off eventually?

thanks, DrX. the facelift was a real upgrade to 'featureless' early MLs. amazing what they implement in newer benzes. i sometimes catch myself looking at S-class as an alternative to ML.. massage seats, distronic, auto closing doors etc all this sounds like features of a spaceship!!
