Can anyone offer me some advice? I've recently picked up some OEM 3rd row jump seats from ebay for my 99 ml320. Where can I find some inexpensive mounting brackets and seat belts for them. Any info will be helpful.
same story here...
I picked up third row seats and also need brackets & seat belts
I'm getting hold of some genuine brackets to copy, (out of the car)
you're welcome to any pictures/dimensions when I get them
also I'll be investigating the seat belts,
I don't see why seat belts from another car could be used
as the third row seatbelts do not have pretensioners in them
maybe you could change the buckle on the seat and use something from another car?
...just ideas
Thats an interesting idea, I would greatly appreciate the info on your design. I had thought that same idea also about the seatbelts. I dont see any reason some aftermarket/universal belts from junkyard or autoparts store can be improvised.
Let me know what you come up with.
I did this retrofit last November, and OEM is definitely the way to go. Forget about reverse engineering a bracket - it's pressed steel in a shape that fits against the wheel arch and under the C-pillar covering.
If you can't afford to buy new parts, you'd have to find a dead ML in a salvage yard and pull the parts you need out of that.
Otherwise, I've found the most economical way to obtain new parts is directly from a German MB dealer. Even if they send them by air it's still a lot cheaper than ordering through your local MB dealer. Consider the expense an investment that adds value to your ML without compromising the safety of your 3rd-row passengers.
You could also try offering to buy the parts you need out of the eBay seller's ML, as they won't be needing them any more.
not sure if these are OEM but he sells a lot of other MB stuff and I contacted some of his buyers directly for feedback and they were all happy with the product.
This is definitely cheaper and easier then getting them fabricated I would say.
