Its amazing different feel. The Traction control no longer come on aggressively and a lot less sensitive than before. I suppose the old sensor was really out of whack and supplied really bad values. No more BAS/ESP light! , No more automatic braking when I maneuver in a parking structure with smooth concrete. No more automatic braking at hard left turns at intersections.

FKong, congrats on fixing your ets problem and bas/esp lights!!! I was wondering where exactly are the screws? And where is exactly the center console? Does that mean I have to remove the window switch plate too?

if you pop loose the shifter cover, remove the center storage bin and pop open the window switch panel. You will see all the screws. 2 screw holds down the storage bin. I think the hardest job is to undo all the harness on the window switches.

So this lateral acceleration sensor has me intrigued. Do the warning lights come on all the time. I notice when I turn at slow speeds I get a slight grinding noice as if the tires are scrubbing. I assumed this was because its a 4 wheel drive. But could it be my brakes being applied. Also, I notice misfiring once I come out of a turn and accelerate. As well as the usual major misfiring if I accelerate too quickly in a straight line. Now I am wondering if the sensor is causing my issues. I should however, get my codes read, and I will once I get the chance to go to a mechanic. Work is getting in the way of my truck and me.

Hi fkong777: How did you pry the bracket open? I took centre console out today and found the lateral sensor... I couldn't figure out how you could open the bracket. Any info would be appreciated
Thanx, Tim

You have to use some force with a flat head screwdriver. I didn't really care if I broke the old sensor. Snapping in the new sensor was more of a challenge. I suggest you practice with the old sensor before installing the new one. The sensor casing is tougher than you think and it snapped back in OK

My symptom was super sensitive traction control. - Automatic braking on some wheel at tight turns. the BAS/ESP light comes on intermittently.

Personally I think it was dangerous because I may a left turn at an intersection. and the auto braking came on and the "!" started flashing. totally threw off my left turn timing.. Luckily on coming traffic wasn't that fast and I had just enough time to get into the lane.

Sounds like you have the same issues as me. Code read will tell you 2-3 faults. IE. BAS control module Fault, ESP switch fault, and Lateral acceleration sensor fault. Change the sensor should solve most of that problem. BAS control module fault will cause the light to come on full time according to my tech. Switch fault is cause by the ESP switch not working when the BAS/ESP light coming on.

fkong77: Thank you for your reply...I will pry the bracket until I get it!

busoptr: As you can see, I have same Model and Year. My dealer says Part # is 163 542 06 18 by VIN # ($142.10 CAN) When I took the console out Sun pm, I saw the same part # on the old unit. You must get the Long Wedge #115 589 03 59 00 It makes the job so much easier and no scratches!!! Of course, you can use this tool for many other things, like door panel removal etc.

Anyone: Does somone know what these units control? Larger rectangular unit # 163 542 2140 located above the larger metal unit # 163 542 50 32 ??? These are located under the switches near the Lateral Sensor. I don't have any issues with them, just curious...

Thanks, Tim
