Ml500/ml430/ml350

I am considering getting back into a Mercedes. Sold my CLK 430 and have regretted it. Just wondered what years are good, what to look for and the differences between ML500/ML430/ML350.

2002+ are better. I would definitely get ml500 and not bother with v6'es since gas consumption is essentially same.

Ditto. Pre 2002 models tend to be more unreliable. I have a 99 ML430 that was a nightmare in it's earlier years.

I highly recommend the ML500 over a smaller engine. Notable difference on acceleration and torque up hills. I was planning on just getting a 2003 ML320, but drove and LOVED the 500 so much that I bought it instead! Definitely look for 1 owners (if possible) and call a dealership for the VMI (Vehicle Master Inquiry) on any MB in which you are interested in buying. I feel the VMI saved me form more than a few problem vehicles. Best of Luck!!!

I just followed the same path as Mercbear, and got ML500 a couple of weeks ago. Here is my story: http://www.benzworld.org/forums/w163...003-ml350.html

Gas mileage is good on ML500. Just made a 500 mile trip (6000 ft climb up and down) and got 18.9 mpg.

I recommend to take a look at 2005 Special Edition. It has some bonus on interior and exterior.

Go with a ML500. I have heard the older ML's, 2001 and earlier had more problems. Though I had a '99 ML430 never had a problem, traded it with 72,000 miles, only prob. I ever had was faulty rearview mirror. Even the Skyview roof worked perfectly and no leaks.
No problems on my 2003 ML500, 52000 miles, gas mileage around 17-18 avg.
ML350 gas mileage not much better, and you'll get Nav. w/ the 500 if thats something you need. A lot quicker than the ML350 too.

I've owned 2 ML's so far. A 00 430 and now an 05 500 SE. The 430 was a good truck in the 45K miles I had it. Only minor problems, good power and mileage. The 05 500 SE is built much better than the 00 430. Even after 26K miles there is not one squeak, rattle or groan out of it. It's still like it was built out of one chunk. The power is much greater than the 430. the mileage is in the 18 to 20 MPG highway and 14 to 15 in town range! I would try and find at least an 04 or 05 as they are built much better. There are some good used 05 500 SE's out there on MB's web site at a good price. As pointed out earlier they have a few more appointments that set them apart from other models, like the ML 55 domed hood, running boards, if you like them, and a very nice interior and seats. I don't think you would regret owning one of these after you test drive one! Good luck!
