Sorry for resurrecting this thread, but I am looking to do either the pump or the drain valve. One thing I have always done with the manual method is to get the engine to running temp (not just warm) and then drain the oil. I know this is not possible with the pump and likely is with the valve. However, something really bugs me about the valve nipple being exposed to road debris.

The valve is made of brass and stainless steel. No problems wiith road debris with mine in four years of use. My 2 cents.
