I've got an 03 ml 500 and was looking at doing the ipod integration. Looks like Denison USA isn't selling it anymore so I'd have to try through Canada. Has anyone tried hooking this up? It seems that you get the titles on the screen as well as keeping the CD changer which I currently have. Looks intriguing
I'm also interested in the Dension Gateway 500 (part number GW5RD200D1, the D2B version) for a 2000 ML430. Dension claims compatibility with M's from 1999 to 2004 for all headunits using D2B Fiber optic connection.
The Dension site has very little in terms of useful feature details or specs, but this is what it looks like:
- all the D2B versions and a few of the MOST versions won't show the song/title text on the MCS (too bad but I could live with it - I guess the changer would have to have supported MP3).
- it assumes the vehicle has a fibre optic connected CD changer
- the fibres to the MCS as well as the CD changer all come to the Gateway 500 which would allow you to switch between the CD changer and the Ipod
- The GW500 also has an auxilliary analog input giving you three choices (Ipod, CD or aux input)
First off after reading a million related posts, I don't believe my 2000 has a fibre CD changer as almost all changers in the 2000 ML are analog line out. Maybe I'll have a look if it ever stops raining.
Presumeably I have accessible D2B fibres somewhere or would that only be the case if I have some other electronics option installed (like the phone or nav)?
